Julietta Hua, Ph.D., SafeHouse Board Member, President
Julietta is a Professor of Women and Gender Studies at San Francisco State University, where she teaches courses on migration, human rights and law. She is the author of "Trafficking Women's Human Rights" and is currently at work on a book about taxi driving in the Uber economy (co-authored with her colleague, Kasturi Ray). Julietta is also a member of Hand In Hand, an Oakland organization of domestic employers working for better work conditions and wages for domestic workers.

Sister Rosina Conrotto, PBVM, SafeHouse Board Member, Secretary
Sr. Rosina was born in Gilroy, California the second of three daughters. She attended St. Mary elementary school and Gilroy High. After high school she attended San Jose State University for two years and then entered the convent of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Sr. Rosina continued her education at University of San Francisco where she earned a BA in education and Santa Clara University where she earned an MA in Counseling Psychology.
Sr. Rosina taught elementary school for one year and then was a high school teacher and counselor for fourteen years at Presentation High School in San Francisco. After that time she served in various roles of congregational leadership and spent thirteen years in retreat ministry. During her term in leadership, Reverend Glenda Hope invited Sr. Rosina to found, with her, a safe house for women leaving prostitution and in January of 1998, San Francisco SafeHouse was born. Sr. Rosina counts this is as one of her most proud accomplishments and truly a blessing.

Alan Becker, SafeHouse Board Member, Treasurer
Alan Becker is the Chief Product Officer at SnapStrat, an Oakland based data analytics and AI startup. His non-linear career has included hardware operations management at Apple, chemical engineering at Dow, and work at a host of startups and non-profits. The common thread is that Alan seeks out hard problems and great teams, and works to continually champion perseverance, collaboration, and diversity. Alan has worked with non-profits in Oakland (Camp Phoenix), Africa (One Acre Fund), and South America (Kallari) — and is dedicated to the SafeHouse mission. Outside of work, Alan is a dedicated father of two and comedy improv performer with Berkeley’s Stone Soup Improv.

Gabriella Ruiz, SafeHouse Board Member
Gabriella is a San Francisco native and is currently the Policy and Planning Manager at Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Center, where she has been working alongside residents and providers for the past year and a half to advance equity. Starting in June, she will be moving on to a Senior Planner position with another local affordable housing agency, Chinatown Community Development Corporation, where she will have to the opportunity to exclusively focus on community-based neighborhood planning from the ground up. In her spare time, she loves to hang out with her two dogs, Simba and Coco.

Juliann Sum, SafeHouse Board Member
Juliann retired in 2019 as Chief of Cal/OSHA, the state agency charged with enforcing workplace safety and health requirements throughout California. Prior work experience includes conducting research and educational projects at UC Berkeley, litigating complex insurance cases for a law firm, and creating and managing an occupational health program for a labor union. She has a law degree from UC Hastings, a master’s in environmental health sciences from Harvard University, and a bachelor’s in biophysics from Brown University.
In addition to serving on the SafeHouse board, Juliann volunteers for Refugee and Immigrant Transitions as a tutor for high school students in Oakland and coordinates weekly social runs for her running club. In the past, she has volunteered as a mentor for students in Cambodia and Thailand learning English language and for students in Oakland training to run marathon and half marathon races.

June Faison, SafeHouse Board Member
June Faison currently works for Common Spirit Health as a Ministry Formation, Program Manager. She has served at Common Spirit Health for 15 years. June is responsible for metrics for the various Ministry Formation programs. June has a daughter and 2 dogs, Bentley and Porsche, a Shih Tzu and a Maltese. In her spare time she is a pilot.

Susie Monson, SafeHouse Board Member
Susie Monson has spent most of her career running operations and finance in small start-up organizations with a focus on renewable energy. Susie is a California native and long-time San Francisco resident. She has volunteered on projects with several Bay Area non-profits including DISH, CASA of San Mateo and A Home Within and feels blessed by the opportunity to work with SafeHouse. Susie has a BA from Pomona College and an MBA from Stanford University.

Susan Philip, SafeHouse Board Member
Susan Philip is a Senior Healthcare Management Consultant with Milliman, Inc and Director of Public Sector Markets for the Milliman MedInsight Practice. She has consulted with state Medicaid agencies, hospitals and health systems, employer coalitions, and public and private purchasers with issues such as quality of care, delivery system transformation, and value-based care. Susan has volunteered or directly served on boards of organizations that support survivors of intimate partner violence, or provide healthcare to the LBGTQ and the homeless populations in San Francisco. Susan is committed to tackling tough issues related to social determinants of health – including developing communities free of violence; and housing security.

Timothy Foster, LCSW, SafeHouse Board Member
Timothy Foster (he/she/they/any/all) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of California and a Queer artist and activist. Transgender and LGBQ mental health, African American mental health, access to affordable quality housing, and the healing of individual and collective trauma are large focuses of Timothy’s clinical practice. Timothy has been on the front lines of social work practice for 15 years, with Clinical Supervision and Training, Community Group therapy, and Harm Reduction best practices being specific clinical interests for Timothy, as well as developing and implementing best clinical practices and program initiatives specific to San Francisco’s unique community.
Timothy’s partner Kurt is also a Licensed Therapist and they live in San Francisco. Timothy is known in the San Francisco Community as Mother Foster, and co-founded TransLife with Community Leader Miss Billie Cooper. In his free time, Timothy still listens to 90s Hip Hop music almost exclusively, with a particular love for the female legendary Hip Hop Pioneers such as Da Brat, Left Eye, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, and Missy Elliot.
