2023 Year In Review

SafeHouse is expanding its services even further; just last month, the Board of Directors approved widening the community we serve to include womxn survivors with minor children. We will also be moving forward to acquire a building that will permanently house womxn and their minor children as they continue to be supported in their recovery and healing.

2023 has been a year of exciting developments for SafeHouse and the Hope Center! We are thrilled to share the difference you are helping us make here in San Francisco and we hope you’ll continue to celebrate with us at our pandemic-delayed 25th Anniversary Gala next year.

End of the Year Newsletter

This was a year of exciting transitions for Safehouse! The Safehouse family has grown, as Toni and her executive team have been laying the groundwork toward establishing a permanent supportive housing program.

We’ve welcomed new staff, including Angela Green (Hope Center Program Manager) and Rhee Pates (Program Manager of the Transitional House), and long-time Director of Programs Kristen Moore welcomes a new baby into her family. The Board of Directors is also excited to have Collen Ma (Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation), Sean Saxton (Lay Pastor for Transgender Ministries and Prayer Ministries at City of Refuge, United Church of Christ), Pamela Merchant (former interim Executive Director of SafeHouse), and Anil Comelo (City Manager, St Helena) join the Safehouse community in 2022.

Giving Tuesday 2022

Today, people worldwide will come together and harness the power of human connection to change our world. GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. There are official GivingTuesday national movements in 80 countries, which continue to grow in year-over-year donation volume. In 2021, an estimated $2.7 Billion were donated in twenty-four hours in the U.S.

This year, San Francisco SafeHouse will be participating in Giving Tuesday 2022, and we need YOUR help! For the last 24 years, we've been supporting women who have experienced incalculable trauma through trafficking and exploitation by creating survivor-centered spaces, services, advocacy, and community education.

End Human Trafficking Day

On July 30th, the world recognizes human trafficking as a horrendous crime that exploits women, children, and men in their countries and abroad. In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons to bring awareness about the situation of victims of human trafficking and their rights. The goal is to prevent abuse, exploitation, and eliminate all forms of violence and forced labor.

Reverend Hope 86th Birthday!

One of the greatest joys of life in my 86th year of life is hearing from or about a SafeHouse graduate who has embraced her true beauty, strength, worth and wisdom as a daughter of God and transformed her life. There are so many! Added to this is knowing of the expansion of the original vision for SafeHouse into the Hope Center and other work reaching out and supporting more homeless sex trafficked and prostituted women to do the same. Soon, SafeHouse will reach an amazing 25th Anniversary. Thank you so much for being part of this. - Reverend Glenda Hope
